We love the Mission of Lets Hug it Out – and we love entrepreneurs making it happen, we sent Matthew Britt a few questions to share his experiences with you about a new start up – the struggles and joys of business. Here are his business basics. Enjoy.
Let’s Hug It Out is a mission of spreading hugs, positive vibes and happiness around the world simply by wearing a shirt. We are building a community of people who are all committed to helping make a positive impact on mankind and mother earth. We started with T-shirts as the method to deliver our message and create the brand awareness because it is simple and effective in spreading it via word of mouth and social media. People proudly wear their Let’s Hug It Out shirts and know that when they have it on they are part of something much bigger than themselves. They feel good and when others see the shirt and logo they too smile, feel better and feel the positive energy radiating from whoever has the shirt on. You will often have strangers give you a hug on the street and others who will just make a comment and smile. You really do make a difference on the overall energy of the world by wearing a shirt. You become a positive light and the more positive things you do for others the better you feel and the more your positive energy radiates through the world.
As the company and community grow we’ll be very effective together in raising money for humanitarian projects we believe in as well as helping to build other companies that work towards improving mankind and mother earth. A few examples of other sectors we’d like to be involved with are solar energy, hemp, yoga etc. Our goal is to be a big lifestyle brand similar to Virgin who owns or helps fund companies, charities and projects that positively impact mankind and mother earth.
Building a company and movement is full of challenges and lessons. There will be lots of mistakes made and many things will change as it is developing and coming together. You must be always on the lookout for current challenges as well as future challenges and do your best to be ready to learn the lessons found in every problem and set back. You need to always be innovating and changing because if you don’t you’ll lose to whomever is.
One of the toughest challenges to overcome when you’re first getting started is funding and cashflow. Shortage of money can seriously limit you and your company’s ability to be effective. Knowing your company’s financial needs and how you’re going to best use the money are very important. Ensure that you have a good understanding of how you are going to make money and add value to the world. The more value you add to the world the more valuable your company will be. The right people love to help others be successful and can be a good source of education for you as well as help with funding when the time comes. In order to get that funding, that is literally all around you (if you have an abundance mentality and know how to build a network and have high trust within that network and a proven track record) you must have a business plan and a business that will add lots of value to the world, solve a massive problem, can be scalable and be able to back that up with proof (numbers).
When you first get started in your new business you are often the person who must do everything and that can be overwhelming and intimidating but fear not because there are lots of great people out there who, (when you can clearly communicate your idea and business) will be happy to work with you and help the company succeed and they will do it out of passion instead of for money (although they will get paid eventually either as employees or as fellow owners) To find those people you absolutely must know WHY you have this business. WHY does your business exist? WHY WHY WHY, people must know WHY they need to be a part of what your business as a customer, member, client, etc (What ever label you want to give them). If you want an amazing team of extremely passionate and positive people who get stuff done then you must be that too, you must be doing personal growth in the subjects that are important to success and you must be practicing what you preach. You must be an attractive person through your energy, your thoughts and your actions. You be ultra passionate about life and what your business is going to do in order to be successful, if you don’t have that passion you will never make it and you’ll never stick with it through all of the tough challenges because there will be many. In my opinion passion for your cause is the most important factor, if you don’t love it, you won’t do it period!
I LOVE making other people smile, I love doing and being good to others, I love being positive, I love making a difference, I love to help, I love to give hugs, I love to raise money and give it away, I love life and being awesome at it, I love learning and growing and studying things I find interesting, I absolutely love what Let’s Hug It Out stands for now and WHY we are here as a company and what we are going to achieve as a community, I love WHY we are building this community of amazing people who all want to help make the world a better place and who want to spread hugs, positive vibes and happiness around the world simply by wearing a shirt. I LOVE what I Do. and that should tell all of you reading this that I will be successful in creating my vision for Let’s hug it Out. If you don’t have that kind of passion and belief you will quit, you will not make it. which I want you to know is ok. If you do not have the passion for that business don’t be hard on yourself, just learn the lessons and go on the hunt for something you are passionate about doing. It took me many many failed businesses to come to this point, it has taken many lessons and days of pain but it is all worth it, every second of it. I love my life and all of it’s ups and downs and am forever grateful for the blessed life I have lived and will continue to live everyday.
Having a team of talented people that work with you, who are great at doing the things you’re not great at is extremely important. You must be able to find the best people possible to be able to help you and the business succeed to its maximum ability. It’s about putting the right people in the right seats on the bus.
Why you started a new company outside of MLM?
I ventured off and started my own company because I was ready, I had achieved some big goals for myself, I had been an entrepreneur in network marketing for over 10 years by that point and had a great passive income that allowed me to focus my attention on my passions in life. I love network marketing and what it has done for me as well as many of my friends. I love the real world business experience and personal growth that happened by being a part of the network marketing industry. I love the networking skills, communication skills, sales skills and personal skills the industry gave the opportunity to learn. I love that because of network marketing I dove very hard into learning about business, finances, successful people, and leadership. I am where I am today because of my time in network marketing and I am so thankful that I got to be a part of some incredible companies. I still support my current company and am really cheering hard for them to be ultra successful and succeed at making the impact on the world they set out to.
I decided that it was time for me to take a big risk and go after my own dreams instead of building something for someone else in a business model that had some daily tasks and challenges involved in it that I did not love doing. I believe in only doing things you love because life is too short to waste time doing anything you don’t love to do. I do still love mlm and am still a part of the same mlm company I achieved the most success with. I will always be grateful for everything the industry has done for me and will always encourage anyone who is looking for a change to investigate the industry for themselves.
I also truly wanted to control my destiny and be the architect of my future and be able to build something I believed in 100% without question. Network Marketing did not totally provide that although it had so many other major positives and benefits, I just knew I had to move in a different direction.
The other thing that I did that made a big difference was that I started building my business while I was still actively promoting and building my network marketing business. That way I was able to transition into an already active business instead of starting from scratch. For me that was a better move.
What do you feel makes the difference in success or not?
Success to me personally is found in both quality of life and life experiences as well as through the positive impact you make on the world. I believe you can achieve success with any venture as long as you prepare, put in the work and have a huge dream and the passion to make it happen. That being said, the business must be able to truly function as a business and have all of the necessary moving parts required to be a success. That is a whole other blog post lol
Success will always be different for everyone but when it comes to business the bottom line is that it provides incredible value to the world and provides a solution to a big problem.
There are some basic habits that are very important to success.
- Reading, listening to audiobooks and learning are critical
- Having mentors and learning from other people who have been successful in what you’re trying to do or parts of it
- Having an open mind and always looking for knowledge and then applying that knowledge into your business and life
- Positive thinking, visualization, goal storming, thinking big, talking positively, reflecting, giving thanks and expressing gratitude, smiling and loving yourself and others
- Cutting out negative friends and avoiding negative situations by being the most positive person around and repelling the negative and attract more positive
- Eating healthy food
- Exercising everything including your body, your mind and your spirit
- Spend time with the best people you can, always be networking and building relationships, get out of your comfort zone. Even if you have labelled yourself shy suck it up and get uncomfortable and meet some new great people
Success in anything takes passion, hard work, time, a big vision, patience, a whole lot of different skills and the right people in the right seats on the bus. It also takes making lots of mistakes, trying things out, getting the results and learning and trying again. It takes a willingness and openness to failure and loving the process and lessons found inside every one.
Success is always achieved when you know what success means to you and do everything you can to live that success everyday and be successful.
How can other share there brand that they are building successfully?
For us to really be effective at spreading our brand and getting people aware of who we are and WHY they want to be a part of our mission and community we leverage T-shirts and teach people what our mission is as a company when they buy a shirt. They in turn spread the mission every time they wear the shirt and automatically let all of their friends and family know about Let’s Hug It Out. We teach everyone to share pictures on themselves in the shirts and let the world know they are part of the mission. We promote our members through all of our social media channels and want everyone to know who supports us and how awesome each of them are. We are proud to be associated with such an incredible group of positive people.
We use instagram as a powerful promotion tool because of it’s effectiveness at photo sharing. Our business model really relies on social media and it’s powerful ability to spread a message with photo’s (which to us are like testimonials) with people smiling and loving what they are a part of. Of course we also leverage Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Google+ as they are effective additional tools to share our message and mission with the world.
Another thing that I do is spend time meeting people on purpose. I go out and network and meet people and promote the brand. Almost everytime I go out these days I am wearing a Let’s Hug It Out shirt and am spreading the mission, giving hugs, being positive, helping out, laughing and making people smile. I am also always giving out our You Are Awesome cards to people that I meet. Those cards are an incredible tool for promoting the mission and company. The You Are Awesome cards are the size of a business card. On the front of the card it has You Are Awesome in white writing on a black background, on the reverse side of the card it reads “You received this card because somebody thinks you are awesome, when you no longer need the reminder pass it on” People absolutely love them! Our website and logo is also found on the back. In our next version of those cards we will be adding something called our viral quotient which is simply giving people a real reason to go to our website, like a discount code to save 20% on their first order or something like that. Having that on the cards encourages more people to actually visit our website after seeing a card.
The best advice I can give you when you’re in a networking scenario and can meet new people is to simply smile and say hi, get good at asking great questions and spend more of your time listening and asking questions then you do at talking. If you want people to like you and remember you then you must become truly interested in them and their life instead of talking about how great your life is.

Life is life, shit happens, good and bad happens to us all.
The simple difference between those who get what they want in life and those who struggle is their attitude and mindset especially how they react to the problems and challenges that happen to us all. If you can see every set back, failure, mistake, bad thing that happened to you, (insert whatever terrible problem or thing that happens to people here) and find the lesson in them, take responsibility for them and keep your head right you can make every bad thing be good. It is all about your mindset and attitude towards what happens to you that determines what happens next.
